2024 Virginia Docent Exchange | Curating Community
Opening Night | Sunday, March 4, 2024
The 2024 Virginia Docent Exchange kicks off the evening of Sunday, March 3, 2024, with two events where we can connect with old friends and colleagues, make a few new ones, and celebrate what is unique about our community.
Welcome Reception | 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
First, join us from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm for a Welcome Reception at the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College. Enjoy wine and light hors d’oeuvres while exploring the galleries. A selection of works from the 19th century through the present day will be on view in four galleries. You will see works by Thomas Hart Benton, Mary Cassatt, Helen Frankenthaler, Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O’Keeffe, Virgil Ortiz, Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, John Sloan, among others. On view in our main gallery is the 112th Annual exhibition, Back to Front: Artists’ Books by Women, a stunning variety of handmade books that function as art objects and vehicles for communication.
Opening Dinner + Guest Speaker, Jennifer Dasal | 7:00 pm
The celebration continues at 7:00 pm with an Opening Dinner at Smith Banquet Hall, Randolph College. After dinner, guest speaker Jennifer Dasal, creator, and host of the beloved ArtCurious Podcast, will share “the unexpected, the slightly odd, and the strangely wonderful in Art History” using her award-winning storytelling style. She will share tips she’s learned over the years on how best to craft engaging and memorable stories about art.
